It is with great fear and apprehension that I released the 2.0 version of Stop Spammers.
I spent all of last week with the debug option turned on. I installed and uninstalled several times. This morning I tested the way that spammers are cached and found what I think is a bug so I tweaked that. I did complete uninstalls and re-installs on several sites and then I upgraded all the others. There were no problems.
I have added so many new complicated features and the actual code is 1.5 times larger than the last release, that I am worried about what new bugs may have crept in.
The code includes WordPress MU functions. I only run two MU sites and one is private with not hits from the public. The public MU site does not use sub-domains so I am worried about things working in a sub-domain version of MU. I don’t want to install a public sub-domain site. I have no good ideas for creating one that will get hits.
I put limits so that users can tweak how sensitive they are to spammers, but 99% of the spammers are caught by SFS, so I cannot be sure that these limits work correctly for Project honeypot and BotScout.
I put a much stronger nag message about buying my book, and I am afraid that it will turn people off.
I can’t wait any longer, so I released it. I hope that people will forgive me when the errors start appearing.
Expect version 2.01 any minute now.
