I screwed up Kindel-This Widget – released bug fix.

Friday, December 31st, 2010

I was too eager to release the Kindle-This widget. I forgot to take out some debug code that I had in it. I was experimenting with some other parameters and I left one of them in as a requirement, even though there was no way to enter it. As a result, the widget broke.

It worked fine here and on my test site because I had run the previous test versions which set the required parameters.

About 50 people downloaded the original version and I hope that I did not get 50 people mad at me.

I think that in the beginning, there are robots that get the code. The programs are them listed other places as downloads. Also, I think that hackers are looking for a security violation. Perhaps a dozen out of that first 50 are mad at me. I hope that they notice that I released a fixed version the morning.

As with any new code, I am sure there will be other problems. I am a nuts and bolts programmer and don’t do style well. The plugin works, but does not have all of the bells and whistles.

I am now working on the version that will allow users to customize the posts and add headers and footers to the extract that is sent to the Kindle. I will also add a shortcode so they can do just one page as needed. I want to add some better stats than a raw count of what is happening.
