I worked on my Stop Spammer Registrations plugin this week. It is getting quite complicated. It checks for IP and Username in addition to the Email. I cache recent attempts in order to keep the bad guys out without having to hit the StopForumSpam db more than I have to.
I had to make it backward compatible so that existing users would not lose their record of hits.
I fixed a bug where email was blank, but the ip address failed.
I added the uninstall cleanup. I forgot to add this to the first 3 versions.
As usual, I had to fix up lots of spelling and grammar mistakes in the docs.
Hi, I installed the update and it works perfectly and it has fixed the issue I reported earlier. I’m creating an article on useful security plugins for WordPress, your plugin is happily included with backlinks.
Thanks again for the excellent plugin, highly recommended ;).
I am nearly done testing 1.6 version. I’ve been making many small changes. I have it installed on 6 of my blogs and I will see how it works for a day or so and then update.

Thanks for the feedback, I look forward to the update. Other than the issue I mentioned your plugin works really well. Before using your plugin I was getting from 3-5 spammy registrations a day and was manually checking against the Stop Forum Spam Db. Your plugin eliminated all of those completely, and since I disabled the plugin to check with the registration issues, spam registrations have started again.
I’ll clear the cache and let you know how I get on, thanks 😉
I have been fine tuning the plugin. There will be another release in a day or so. For now, clear the cache and try again. It is not a problem with googlemail or gmail. What is happening is that a spammer comes in through an ISP that has an IP address marked as bad and then anyone coming from the ISP is thought bad. I am testing the version that doesn’t have this problem so update as soon as you see the notice on your control panel.

Hi
This has been a very useful plugin for me, very good at eliminating the spam registrations, but today someone got in touch asking why they couldn’t register on the site. They had a googlemail.com address. I checked it with one of my own google mail accounts and all I get is:
“ERROR: The email address isn’t correct.”
I don’t know if this will be the same with other email providers or is just happening with the google accounts.
WOW…
I like this already it is working very well. Thank you for a job well done.
If it doesn’t work or you decide not to use, please let me know why so I can try to fix it.
Keith
Just to let you great idea on plugin. I am running the Stop Spammer Registrations 1.4 on my multiblog social site called Twinzi. I will see how it works on one of my sites. If works well I will be recommended it to everyone I host websites for.
I also was kind of enough to add a link back to this site in my resources section.
Thanks for the plugin.
