Last night this site went to be a PR3 and woke up a PR4. That’s good. I had three other sites that went up, but two of my money makers went down and my personal blog dropped a point (with the exception of two individual pages). I don’t have ads on my personal blog, but still, that is a little sad.
I am guessing that this blog is up a point because of the incoming links from the WordPress Codex. I thought that these would be nofollow links. I don’t see many quality inbound links here from anyone else, though.
I will keep writing. I have a theory that shelf space is as good as popularity. I have thousands of posts and pages on my website, most with different subjects and keywords. If you Google one of the thousands of obscure things that I’ve commented on, the odds are that my site will show in the first 10 hits on Google. Since there are so many pages, I get lots of hits. It is sort of like Kellogg’s Cereals dominating a whole section of the supermarket shelf. Few boxes are overwhelmingly popular, but you can’t walk by without buying at least one of the items, just because they take up so much room on shelves.
For the most part, I don’t make any money on sites like this. I don’t monetize many of my sites so I am not too upset that they make no money. I am concerned, however, about the few sites that I own that have some income. I need to go and re-optimize some of my sites.
